ABOUT US

Dubbed “Birmingham’s Sweetheart” by her loyal fans, Lauren “Sassy” Brown has been singing as long as she can remember. From touring as a young adult in a 12 member a cappella ensemble alongside Ruben Studdard, to stages all across the South East, Lauren has always had a passion for music and giving her fans an enjoyable music experience.

Moving back home to Alabama in late 2010, she formed The Sassy Brown Band in 2012. One of the definitions of Sassy is lively and high-spirited - which certainly describes the foot tapping, danceable beat of her band. While Sassy is working the room on vocals, Glen Butts is smoking on lead guitar, Andrew Brasfield is blowing the blues on harmonica, Scott Housey is keeping it funky on bass and John Oliver is holding down the killer beat on drums. In the years since their formation, The Sassy Brown Band can be found entertaining audiences all over Alabama and have had the privilege to open for bands such as Eric Clapton, Mike Zito and Sam Frazier.

After much anticipation, Sassy and the guys just released their first full length CD – The Sassy Brown Band Live at Ranelli’s Soul Pit. The CD has been met with high praise – being picked up by several International Radio stations for airplay. “Blues on the Marsh” DJ Kevin Beale proclaimed “This album is one of the best new releases of 2015! If you’ve never heard Sassy original “Street Corner Blues” you are missing a real treat!”

When asked why she sings the blues, Lauren said “The blues make me happy. And no, that doesn’t mean being sad and blue makes me happy! The blues aren’t all about sadness. Blues is about happiness AND sadness - love, lust, passion, anger, heartache. That’s life, baby. And THAT makes me happy!”
